Loneliness is one of the
scariest things college students face

I've been lonely before--when I was in college, when I started graduate school, and those times afterward, when I tried to figure out how to adapt to the working world. Based on my experiences and research, I help college students and those getting ready to leave college establish connections and prevent loneliness. In the past few years, loneliness has come to the forefront as an important issue. In fact, a 2018 study by Cigna reports "Nearly half of Americans report sometimes or always feeling alone." Former US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy has called loneliness an "epidemic."
My passion is in connecting with college students, as adults 18 to 22 report the highest rates of loneliness. In my talk, I share my personal experiences with a lack of belonging. I also speak on the importance of combating loneliness in our society and motivate listeners to make connections.
My presentation also addresses the role that mental health issues--depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, eating disorders--can play in leaving us feeling lonely.

I'm available to speak to freshmen orientations, student mental health groups, campus activities organizations, and many others! I'd love to share my talk at your school and motivate your students to find a sense of belonging in what can often be a terribly confusing time of their lives.
